Commuinty Foundation reaches two milestones - 50th Anniversary and $100 million in assets
The Quad Cities Community Foundation is pleased to announce it has reached $100 million in assets in its 50th year of existence. The Foundation is now in the top 10% of community foundations nationally based on assets. Passing $100 million is a turning point for many community foundations as it allows them to make a greater positive impact in their communities.
“The Community Foundation has seen rapid growth from $1.3 million in one fund in 1993 to $100 million in assets in more than 900 charitable funds today,” stated Susan Skora, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We have grown because of the generosity of donors who want to give back to our community.”
The Foundation’s purpose is to better our community by growing permanent and persistent resources. Every year, the Foundation makes grants to non profits to support their programs and gives scholarships to local students. The Foundation has granted more than $40 million since its formation in 1964.
“Each of our 900 charitable funds has a purpose chosen by the donor and our task is to carry out what the donor wanted,” said Skora. “We protect their legacy of caring for a cause that they loved.”
The Foundation is also celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014. A yearlong series of events is planned and everyone is encouraged to join in the celebration. For new permanent funds opened by June 2014, the Foundation will make a $1,000 grant to the donor’s chosen charity. This “50 for 50 Challenge” will result in at least $50,000 in grants to be given out on October 30th at the Foundation’s Anniversary Celebration.
