Making an Impact - Community Foundation comes to the rescue
It wasn’t a typical May Day for the staff members of the Scott County Family Y, or for the YMCA’s Camp Abe Lincoln.
In the midst of gearing up for a full and very busy summer at Camp Abe Lincoln, the camp staff had two pieces of kitchen equipment fail within days of each other.
At 4:00 PM on May 1, Frank Klipsch, President of the YMCA Youth & Family Foundation reached out to Susan Skora, Community Foundation’s President & CEO with an emergency request to help pay for replacement of their industrial dishwasher and stove, both beyond repair. By 4:45 PM the request was approved.
“Now I can go home tonight knowing that hundreds of kids at camp this summer will have hot food served on clean dishes,” said Mr. Klipsch upon hearing the news. “It was great to see firsthand how the Community Foundation can react quickly to respond to community needs and challenges. Thank you again for coming to the rescue for kids and families in our community.”
This type of emergency response is made possible by donors to the Foundation’s Community Impact Fund, a permanent source of community capital granting to area nonprofits since 1964. The Fund enables the Foundation to respond to high priority needs in the community as they arise.
