Edwin R. Adland and Ruth H. Adland Scholarship

Edwin Adland was born on April 8, 1904, in North Cape, WI. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in civil engineering. His education led him to a career with the Army Corp of Engineers at the Rock Island Arsenal. On January 1, 1963, Edwin married Ruth Ives. Ten years later, after 30 years of service, Edwin retired form the Arsenal. He spent much of his retirement staying active through the Rock Island Rotary Club and Elks Club.

Edwin passed away in 2006 at the age of 101. In his will he left behind an estate gift of nearly $1 million to create the Edwin R. and Ruth H. Adland Scholarship. This scholarship benefits high school seniors who plan to attend Augustana College, Iowa State University, or the University of Northern Iowa.

The need and character of the student is the primary consideration when determining scholarship recipients. Edwin worked closely with his financial advisor to create a meaningful planned gift and one that would benefit his beloved community, forever.
