75 scholarships totaling more than $500,000 now available

The first-ever Dr. Anita L. Pinc Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the highly-respected and beloved obstetrics and gynecological doctor, will be awarded in 2021

Female students attending medical school will now benefit from the life of Dr. Anita L. Pinc through a memorial scholarship that celebrates her legacy, and advances her passion for women in medicine.

Dr. Pinc, a highly-respected and beloved obstetrics and gynecological doctor, passed away earlier this year after a tragic boating accident. The Group Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists established the scholarship to encourage and support local female students who have a passion, love, and interest in medicine. The $1,000, renewable scholarship is one of 75 scholarship awards totaling more than $500,000 now available thanks to the generosity of donors to the Community Foundation.

“Though I never had the honor of meeting Dr. Pinc, all of us at the Community Foundation have been moved by the stories we’ve been told about the way she cared for her patients, and her passion for making the field of medicine more accessible to young women,” said Sherry Ristau, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “The generous contributions made by The Group and so many community members is evidence of how she lived her life, and how she will be remembered. We are grateful to have been trusted with this memorial gift.”

Applications for 2021 scholarships are currently open and will close on February 15, 2021. Students are encouraged to apply early at www.QCCommunityFoundation.org/scholarships. Students fill out a common application that helps to determine which scholarships they are eligible for.

“Our goal is to make this process as accessible as possible for students. We ask that the community help to spread the word so that those individuals who might benefit most from the scholarships know of these wonderful opportunities,” said Kathleen Badejo, grantmaking specialist at the Community Foundation.

Scholarships are available to high school students, current college students, and non-traditional students.
