Year-end gifting and granting

As the days grow short and the nights get cool, we invite you to share in the benefits of year-end giving. Gifts of cash or property (real estate or stock) may provide you with a charitable tax deduction.

A charitable gift annuity could offer the benefit of fixed payments to you for your lifetime in addition to a charitable deduction. You might wish to learn more about giving through a charitable bequest in your estate. We are here to help you carry out your vision of philanthropy.

Gifting stock? Use our new stock transfer account

Gifting appreciated stock is a great way to make a difference and lowers the cost of the gift by saving capital gains tax.

Within the past six months we have changed our stock transfer account to a Schwab account, so you will need to obtain the updated information prior to any stock gift. Before you or your broker order the transfer of any shares, contact Anne Calder at (563) 326-2840 or annecalder@qccommunityfoundation.org for the new transfer account information and we’ll make gifting stock easy to do!

A gift you won’t have to sanitize

As the end 2020 draws near, we’ve got a gift idea that won’t require Clorox wipes.

Make a tribute gift to the community fund, nonprofit fund, scholarship or donor fund of your choice in honor or in memory of your loved ones for the holiday season. When you pay tribute, we will send a card to the family of the honoree and celebrate that they inspired your generous gift. To learn more, give Joscelyn Rowe a call at (563) 326-2840 or joscelynrowe@qccommunityfoundation.org or gift online through our website and select “Tribute” to add your honoree.

Donor advised fund granting by year end

As we kick off the holiday season, there is still time to issue grants from donor advised funds. If you have a donor advised fund you are not required to grant your entire spendable balance, but we want to make sure you have the opportunity to do. Grant recommendations submitted to the Community Foundation by Friday, December 11 will be fulfilled by December 31. We will make every effort to issue grants recommended after December 11, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so. You can recommend a grant right from your MyFund portal. For support making a grant recommendation, give Kathleen Badejo a call or email at (563) 326-2840 or kathleenbadejo@qccommunityfoundation.org.

Looking for ideas?

If you are looking for ideas on where you can grant from a donor advised fund this year, our Community Foundation staff are here to help! We know of opportunities and current needs in the community that just might be a match for you. You can also grant to the Quad Cities Community Impact Fund to join with others in supporting needs across the community, or to the Friends of the Foundation Endowment to support the Community Foundation’s services to the community.
